Anaheim Elementary School District contributed to this project as part of our ongoing collaboration with the city of Anaheim and the YMCA. "The Anaheim Family YMCA's new facility will be an indoor/outdoor community hub that will welcome more than 3,000 residents each week, expand our community impact and provide a place of belonging for local residents of every age" (Anaheim Family YMCA).
We discussed important issues impacting schools, including a number of upcoming ballot initiatives and the potential effect of the Janus case on union membership. The CSBA also reiterated that it is a non-partisan organization that will not endorse individual candidates in upcoming elections.

On March 29, 2018, I had the honor of presenting at the CABE conference in Sacramento, California, with a colleague from the Anaheim Union High School District. Our presentation was titled "Equal Access: Providing Rigor for English Learners with Disabilities in General Education". Along with my presentation, Mrs. Magaly Rodriguez and Mr. Jesse Chavarria proudly represented AESD's DLI program on the convention floor. I am honored to have had this opportunity to talk about our community and our students. We must continue our work to refocus our district toward community-based schools. I encourage you to take a look at three key components of current law. The EL Road Map, created after the passage of Prop 58 in 2016, and Endrew v. Dourglas, a recent Supreme Court case impacting students with special needs.
At the March 21, 2018 board meeting, I agendized and led the board discussion on restructuring the district to increase effectiveness and community responsiveness. With my leadership, AESD is continuing the Budget Advisory Committee with modifications to empower parents, community, and staff members to transform AESD into an efficient and cost effective community school district.
Parents expressed a desire to begin a dual immersion program at Henry as soon as possible. Parents also requested the Junior Cadet program be returned to Henry, along with accelerating the reconstruction of Henry. As the Trustee of Area 2, I have and will continue to advocate for the parents of our community.
